How to choose a uniform supplier (checklist)

Choose a uniform supplier that makes a sample before bulk production, explains fabric choices clearly, can keep your design on file for matching reorders, communicates directly and gives a written quote with lead times. Ask whether they manufacture themselves or resell another factory's garments.

1. Manufacturer or reseller?

Many uniform companies resell garments made by other factories. That is fine, but ask. A manufacturer can change fabric, fit and details; a reseller is usually limited to what their supplier stocks.

2. Will they make a sample?

Never approve a bulk order from photos alone. A good supplier makes a sample in your chosen fabric with your logo, so you can check colour, fit and finish.

3. Do they explain fabric choices?

Ask why they recommend a fabric. A supplier who asks how the uniform will be used (kitchen heat, outdoor work, office) is thinking about your staff, not just the price.

4. Can they keep reorders consistent?

The most common uniform problem is mismatch: new staff in a slightly different colour or fit. Ask whether they keep your design, fabric and pattern on file.

5. How do they handle sizes?

Look for a clear size chart, a size collection sheet, and an option for size samples on large orders.

6. Packing and delivery

For multi-site businesses, ask whether they pack per branch and per employee.

7. Communication

Can you talk directly to someone who knows production? Slow, indirect communication causes delays and mistakes.

8. Written quote

Insist on a written quote with specification, price, lead time, payment terms and shipping terms. See MOQ explained and lead times.

Frequently asked questions

Should we choose a local supplier or a factory abroad?

Local suppliers are convenient for small, urgent orders. Factory-direct ordering usually offers better pricing and control for larger, planned programmes.
