What kitchen uniforms face
Kitchens in Pakistan and the Gulf can be extremely hot. Uniforms face heat, steam, splashes, grease and daily washing at high temperature. The fabric has to:
- breathe and let sweat evaporate;
- resist stains and wash clean;
- survive frequent, hot washes;
- keep its colour and shape;
- stay safe near heat.
Fabric options compared
| Fabric | Breathability | Stain resistance | Durability | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100% cotton | High | Low | Medium | Chefs near open flame |
| Poly-cotton (65/35) | Good | Good | High | Chef coats, crew shirts |
| Lightweight poly-cotton with mesh | Very good | Good | Good | Very hot kitchens |
| 100% polyester | Lower | High | High | Front-of-house, delivery |
| Denim or canvas | Medium | Good | Very high | Aprons |
Our recommendations
- Chef coats: poly-cotton twill, with mesh back or underarm panels for hot kitchens. A higher cotton blend for grill and tandoor stations.
- Crew shirts and polos: poly-cotton or performance polyester; colour-fast for daily washing.
- Aprons: heavy poly-cotton for kitchens, denim or canvas for cafés.
- Trousers: elasticated poly-cotton for comfort through long shifts.
Colour choice
- White shows hygiene and can be bleached, but stains show.
- Black and charcoal hide stains but can fade with hot washing.
- Brand colours work well for front-of-house; choose colour-fast fabric.
Care tips
Wash chef wear at the temperature on the care label, pre-treat grease stains, and rotate two or three sets per person. See how many uniforms per employee.
We advise on fabric for every role when quoting a restaurant uniform order.
Frequently asked questions
Is 100% cotton better for chefs?
Cotton is breathable and does not melt, but it stains, creases and fades faster. Poly-cotton is the usual compromise for daily kitchen use.
Are polyester chef coats safe near flames?
Synthetic fabrics can melt with direct flame contact. For roles close to open flames, a higher cotton content is safer.
